Today I’m sharing my process for creating and using templates for lettering & bible journaling. This is the process I always use, and it’s working well so far. It can take anywhere between a few minutes and a couples of hours to finish a template. You can also grab the “Peace” template for free at the bottom of this post!
Behind the scenes…
Creating the templates…
My go-to’s for creating lettering and art templates are my iPad and the Procreate app. I set up a document which is the same size as my Bible page, so I can make my templates just the right size. I love lettering and illustrating on my iPad!
Setting up the Bible page…
The next thing to do is print out the template – no fancy printer needed… I sometimes have to fold the paper so it’ll fit under my page. I use washi tape to hold my template in place, then on to the fun!
Lettering & Painting…
I either trace the template lightly with a pencil, or I just use it as a guide. If you’re having trouble seeing the template through the page, you might want to use a light pad so you can easily trace. I love watercolor! Choose colors you love that make you happy! The templates I create usually have smaller lettering, and for that I like to use a brush pen.
Bible journaling tip: Washi tape!
A few small pieces will do, and your template will stay in place. To avoid it being too sticky, you can stick and unstick it to your desk or table a few times. Tape down your page. When you’re done painting, slowly remove the washi tape so you don’t accidentally rip your page.
So there you have it – my start to finish process in a nutshell. Some pages take longer than others, but I enjoy each and every one. I love sharing the templates, and I hope you find them useful. Grab the free template below!
