Welcome to my little space on the interwebs! I’m so excited you’re here! If you’ve seen my About page, you know the story of the little notebook & bright pink Sharpie. I’m thinking that was in 2015 – time flies by so fast! If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out the story here. For my first ever blog post, I thought it would be fun to show you a page from that sketch book & compare it to what my lettering looks like now in 2019.
The lettering on the left was from 2015. Looking at it now, it’s not so great, but I remember how excited I was to give lettering a try. I was pretty much obsessed with learning this new skill. With tons of practice, research and an iPad, I got to the pic on the right. I started out lettering with pens & paper, but now I use my iPad for just about all of my lettering.
I have a full time job & other obligations like most people do, but I always find time for creativity. I wake up really early, so that gives me time to put in an hour or so of creative time before work. It’s my best time to work on creative stuff, but nights & weekends are great too! It honestly it doesn’t feel like work – it’s more like therapy for me.
If you ever feel lost or discouraged with your own lettering journey, just remember:
- Go at your own pace
- Don’t compare yourself to others
- Never stop learning
- Practice, practice, practice
- HAVE FUN!
